Greetings
Welcome to our newsletter. We like to offer a change from other newsletters which can demand an awful lot of reading…
“Knock knock”
“Who’s there?”
“Control freak – and now you say ‘Control freak who?’”
We’re delighted to report that emotional intelligence at work will be delivering a pilot coaching programme in strategic leadership for a primary care trust in the south west. The key point is that it is a coaching initiative – not a training course – yet it is both short and cost effective. We are also delighted that a substantial part of the cost of the pilot has been met by Skills for Health, the sector skills council for health, a tangible endorsement of our approach to this subject. For more information on this please contact Kay or Jeremy.
If man were wise, he would gauge the true worth of anything by its usefulness and appropriateness to his life
Michel de Montaigne, C16 French philosopher (above)
… in other words, our philosophy that, when choosing a course of action, select that which is the most useful (happily raising the issue of what ‘useful’ means).
The prudent person strives for freedom from pain, not pleasure
Aristotle, C3BC Greek philosopher
…sounds just like Grant Leboff’s view that customers buy solutions to problems, not benefits.
Thought-provoking graduation lecture by JK Rowling on the fringe benefits of failure and the importance of imagination. (And incidentally a model of how to write a 3000 word piece.)
Social and Emotional Intelligence: the leadership challenge
presented by Dr Daniel Goleman on 13 April 2010 in Manchester.
Daniel Goleman was one of the first developers of the concept of emotional intelligence, and latterly social intelligence. He will “inspire and challenge” leaders and managers across the public and private sectors on practical ways in which emotional and social intelligence can benefit personal and organisational performance.
Contributions always gratefully received.
If you have been, thank you for reading.
