A short piece about the precepts and principles of leadership

298472_7088

The understanding, willingness and ability to deploy at least some of these precepts and principles set apart leaders from others.

Precepts of leadership

A precept is a principle which contains an encouragement, a call to action, if you like.
Here are twelve precepts of leadership which we find are the most useful.  See the links below for material about these precepts.

1  Make the other person more important than you

2  Deal with the world as it is, not as you would like it to be

3  Be the change you want to see in the world

4  Seek to understand the other person

5  Put your trust in the other person

6  Give up all judgment

7  Seek consensus

8  Let go of the need to be right

9  Choose without being attached to the outcome

10  Blame no one, not even yourself

11  Feel the fear, and do it anyway

12  Be present.

Principles of leadership

Principles are statements about how the world is.
Here are fifteen principles especially relevant to leadership.  See the links below for material about these principles.

1  The meaning of a communication is what the recipient makes of it

2  The outcome of any communication is what we intend it to be

3  Independence delays you

4  Where we attack or defend we will be attacked

5  Every attack is a cry for help

6  All problems and upset began in the past

7  We are all on the same team

8  We can win or we can be successful

9  True giving is giving without any expectations

10  We already have all the resources we need

11  Every behaviour has a positive intention

12  We are responsible for our lives

13  There is no failure, only feedback

14  All models are wrong, but some models are useful

15  Leaders create leaders (not followers).

Of course, there are any number of precepts and principles:  these are just the ones I, and many others, have found the most useful.  I encourage you to investigate and apply your own.
